Pedilidae currently includes 19 species in
Canada; none has been reported from Alaska. The
adults usually occur on flowers or foliage and feed
on flowers, pollen, and nectar; they are attracted to
light at night. The larvae live in decaying plant
matter, uLsually in wet places.
The group is probably closely related to
Anthicidae, and some authors, including Crowson
(1955) and Lawrence (1982o), have included the
pedilids in Anthicidae. Members of Pedilidae are
usually classified in two subfamilies, Pedilinae and
Eurygeniinae. Young (1984) suggestecl that the
genus Pedilus be transferred from Pedilidae to
Pyrochroidae and placed in its own subfamily
(Pedilinae) and that other North American pedilids
be tranferred to Anthicidae. I prefer to wait until
Young's revision of the genus Pedilus is published
before incorporating these changes.
