Customer-Printed Mailing Labels
Mailers certified to use the electronic rate option (see “Electronic Rate Option
Certification Process” in Section 2, Electronic Rate Qualifications can print
their own Confirmation Service barcoded labels.
An example of a customer-printed label on blank stock is depicted in Exhibit
3-1. You also have the option to print labels that are identical, or nearly
identical, in design to Label 314, Delivery Confirmation Electronic Label, for
Delivery Confirmation service, shown in Exhibit 3-2, or Label 315, Signature
Confirmation, for Signature Confirmation service. One of the following
barcode symbologies must be used to print barcoded labels used for the
electronic rate:
UCC/EAN Code 128 (mandatory for all labels after January 10, 2004).
USS Code 128.
USS Code Interleaved 2 of 5.
USS Code 3 of 9.
A Package Identification Code (PIC) uniquely identifies each package in your
mailing. The PIC is represented in the barcode on the label and must be
unique for 12 months. See Appendix G for barcode specifications.
One element of the PIC is the mailer’s D-U-N-S Number. Companies printing
labels from more than one physical address should have a unique D-U-N-S
Number for each location. The D-U-N-S Number for each mailing site may be
obtained by contacting Dun & Bradstreet by phone at 800-333-0505 or via
the Internet at www.dnb.com. Your Postal Service account manager can help
you throughout this process.

“Shipping Partners, Fulfillment Operations, and Multiple Shipping Sites” in
Section 2, Electronic Rate Qualifications.
