BARCODES
I’ve been told by the Postal Service
that my barcodes are not placed properly
on the packages.
GUIDELINES
Label Placement. It is important to ensure that the confirmation services
barcode is on the same side and in close proximity to the recipient’s
address. When this does not occur, it is very possible a delivery
employee will not notice the barcode on another side of the package,
resulting in a missed scan. This occurs most often with smaller
packages, if the barcode is wrapped around the side of the box on a
different side from the recipient’s address.
This happens more often with shipping partners, whose customers place
their customers’ address labels on the packages before forwarding the
packages to their consolidators. The shipping partners then place the
Delivery Confirmation service label on the package. This is a training
issue that the shipping partner needs to address with its shipping
department personnel.
Overlabeling. Ensure that the confirmation service barcode is not
covered by other barcodes or labels. When this occurs, the delivery
employees cannot scan the barcode or key in the PIC unless the entire
PIC is visible. Labels may be placed over the confirmation services
barcode due to the lack of understanding by the shipping department
personnel on the importance of the delivery information to their company.
The company, in this case, should work with their personnel to ensure
that no other barcodes are in the vicinity of the confirmation service
barcode or that the confirmation service barcode is obscured in any
way.
