Service Type Codes
Appendix B
Service Type Codes
To make it easier for shippers to use multiple special services, we have
expanded the service combinations that can be included in a single barcode.
Table B is a matrix of current active Service Type Codes (STCs) for the
Delivery Confirmation service, Signature Confirmation service, and Integrated
Barcode programs. STCs are designated within a barcode to identify the
class of mail and/or type of special services included on the mail item.
Consult Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) R900 or Notice 123, Ratefold, for the
appropriate fees for each added service. Rate information is also available at
the Postal Service Web site www.usps.com.
Confirmation Service Type Codes
The Service Type Code consists of the two characters immediately following
the Application Identifier (91) in the Package Identification Code (PIC) of a
barcode using the UCC/EAN Code 128 barcode symbology. If you are using
one of the alternate barcode symbologies (USS Code 128, USS Code
Interleaved 2 of 5, or USS Code 3 of 9), it will be the first two characters of
the PIC.
A Service Type Code of 50 has been reserved for use in the Electronic File
Number field of the Header Record.
