• Encourage and maintain a positive work environment for the
affected employee, including meaningful work that is acceptable to
all parties.
• Promote the understanding that rehabilitation, as required, will be
provided and, if necessary, additional assistance obtained from an
approved rehabilitation provider.
• Ensure that participation in an occupational rehabilitation program
will not, in itself, prejudice an injured employee.
Any rehabilitation program will be developed in consultation with the
employee, their medical practitioner, Council’s Rehabilitation Coordinator
and Risk Management Officer, the employee’s direct supervisor,
the rehabilitation service provider, and, if applicable, the insurance
company and, if requested by the employee, their union representative.
Under this Policy the ill/injured employee has the right to choose their
treating medical practitioner and to also be consulted when choosing a
rehabilitation service provider should one be considered necessary.
All employees have an important role to play to ensure the best possible
outcome for their injured colleagues and successful occupational
rehabilitation requires involvement and commitment.

6.0 Responsibility
Council
‣ Adopt an Occupational Rehabilitation Policy.
General Manager
‣ Appoint a Rehabilitation Co-ordinator and maintain the overall
management of the Policy, ensuring its effective operation.
Rehabilitation Co-ordinator
‣ Co-ordinate any required rehabilitation program with all interested
parties in accordance with the aims and goals of the Policy.
