Companies in the machinery and equipment (M&E) sector are moving from the endowment with<br />

basic ICT equipment to embedding e-business in their business strategies. An important application<br />

area for e-business in the M&E industry is after sales service. Machines are increasingly being sold in<br />

combination with services covering implementation, maintenance, repairs, or the operation of the<br />

machine. <strong>The</strong>se services offer many opportunities for the use of electronic service delivery tools.<br />

Large enterprises in the automotive industry are advanced users of e-business technologies, mainly<br />

for automating B2B processes. Frequently used systems include ERP, SCM, and collaborative design<br />

systems. ICT-enabled innovations still remain a source of competitive advantage. <strong>The</strong> process of interfirm<br />

integration proceeds rapidly in the automotive industry. Online procurement has become a part<br />

of everyday business and belongs to the most frequently adopted e-business applications.<br />
