A true copy of the Acknowledgement of Giles James (sic) made before the<br />
right honourable the Earl Marshall of Engl<strong>and</strong> for uttering diverse<br />
sc<strong>and</strong>alous <strong>and</strong> untrue speeches about Charles Gore in Lincolns Inn<br />
7th November 1631<br />
Whereas I James Giles have been tormented before the right honourable the<br />
Earl Marshal of Engl<strong>and</strong> for having violently <strong>and</strong> willingly uttered diverse<br />
sc<strong>and</strong>alous proclamations <strong>and</strong> barbarous speeches upon several occasions in<br />
many places against Mr Charles Gore of Lincolns Inn Esq for which I have justly<br />
received punishment by imprisonment I now see my error therewith am heartily<br />
sorry for the same <strong>and</strong> being desirous (in as much as in me lies) to give all<br />
possible satisfaction for the wrong I have done him that I may shortly remove<br />
all aspersions that may be upon his reputation by my said intemperance. I do<br />
hereby freely acknowledge that I spake the said words out of passion <strong>and</strong> heat,<br />
<strong>and</strong> not from any just grounds whatever. I desire that it may now be past over<br />
<strong>and</strong> remitted <strong>and</strong> this my acknowledgement accepted to whom hereafter I shall<br />
bear my self temperately <strong>and</strong> as becomes me. In witness whereof I have<br />
hereto sett my h<strong>and</strong>s this 7th day of November 1632<br />
