to the Royalist stronghold at Cirencester. Charles received two Royal<br />
“Protections” for this, the first 220 from Prince Maurice, 221 who was in comm<strong>and</strong><br />
at Cirencester <strong>and</strong> another from the King himself 222<br />
There is also a receipt from the following year, by Captain Francis Revesby, for<br />
a “horse, saddle, bridle, carbine <strong>and</strong> case of pistols, bark <strong>and</strong> Broft Buff Coat<br />
<strong>and</strong> a sword <strong>and</strong> an able sufficient rider in full discharge of Light Horse <strong>and</strong><br />
Arms for his Majesties service” 223<br />
After the Restoration Charles was made Steward of Corsham Manor 224 <strong>and</strong><br />
High Steward of Malmesbury. He continued to acquire l<strong>and</strong> in the local area,<br />
for example in 1648 he bought l<strong>and</strong> from Roger Kilbury. This was a year before<br />
Charles’ death in 1649, Lydia surviving her husb<strong>and</strong> by six years. She died 3<br />
January 1665 <strong>and</strong> a memorial to her was recorded by Phillipps 225<br />
