Giles <strong>and</strong> Edith had several sons – Richard their heir, George, Sylvester (of whom more<br />
below) <strong>and</strong> Nicholas. Giles’ will was dated 18 April 1562 but he died 124 twenty years<br />
later. In it Giles gave George all his l<strong>and</strong>s at Westport, Burton Foxley <strong>and</strong><br />
Brokenborough late in the tenure of Richard Bremmen his brother in law , presumably,<br />
but not certainly, married to his sister Elizabeth. Giles’ son Sylvester was granted<br />
the manor of Grittleton for life, with reversion to Richard or his heirs <strong>and</strong> Nicholas<br />
was granted Alderton for life in the right of John Snell Giles’ sister Elizabeth was<br />
granted 5 marks <strong>and</strong> meat <strong>and</strong> drink yearly for, life His brother Thomas was given 5<br />
marks <strong>and</strong> so was alive in 1562 The executors were his son <strong>and</strong> heir Richard <strong>and</strong><br />
Peter Beaufort who received a Gold King’s or<br />
Giles was succeeded by his son Richard, who bought Hullavington <strong>and</strong>, between 1576-<br />
78, l<strong>and</strong> at Surrendell. 125<br />

fifteenth century, John Hamlin held it in 1545 (Taxation Rolls WRS vol X, p27) <strong>and</strong> on his<br />

Gore bought l<strong>and</strong> from all three <strong>and</strong> his son Edward bought the Manor house from John.<br />
