Their son, Giles II, inherited the estate. It may well be that Giles was<br />

named after the patron saint of the village, St Giles 102 . Giles II bore the<br />

combined arms of Gore, Whitoksmead <strong>and</strong> Keynell<br />

During his lifetime Giles II had l<strong>and</strong> at Alderton, Trowbridge, Melksham,<br />

Whitley, Shaw, Beanacre, Seend, Seend Row, Woodrow, Woolmere,<br />

Westport, Burton, Foxley, Brokenburgh, Steeple Ashton, Chippenham,<br />

Hullavington, Luckington, Langridge <strong>and</strong> Grittleton.<br />

In his will Giles bequeathed l<strong>and</strong> in the hundred of Malmesbury that was “late in<br />

the tenure of his brother in law Richard Bremman”, <strong>and</strong> Elizabeth is the only<br />

sister we know of. As Giles’ will is dated 1562 Richard must have died after<br />

this.<br />
