One of the earliest records known for Alderton not in Thomas Gore’s<br />

manuscript is a rent roll that starts with a Court Baron held by William 69<br />

on 20 th October 1414. From this it is known that l<strong>and</strong> in Alderton was<br />

held by Sir Walter de Poole <strong>and</strong> Roger Hure, who was the parson of<br />

Sherston 70 .<br />

The title of this roll is not given in the section dealing with it but later on in the<br />

manuscript Jackson mentions that "the first court held by the Gores was in<br />

1414" <strong>and</strong> gives a reference of Curia manerii Willi Gore tenta apud Aldrington<br />
