Level III:<br />
CLA/MAPP: The goal is that the value for the Computer Science program is<br />
greater than or equal to ―Mean - Std. Deviation.‖<br />
ETS Proficiency Profile: The goal is that the value for the Computer Science<br />
program is greater than or equal to ―Mean - Std. Deviation.‖<br />
Graduation Rate: The goal is 100% of non-transfer students graduating within<br />
four (4) years and 100% of transfer students or students with a double major<br />
graduating within six (6) years.<br />
Programming Exam: This exam is based on the concepts learned in CSCI 1990<br />
and 2990 and is taken at the end of the semester in which the student<br />
completes CSCI 2990. The exam is timed and supervised by the CSCI 2990<br />
instructor. The goal is for 100% of students to make a B- or greater.<br />
Ethics: As part of CSCI 2990, students will write a five-page research paper<br />
about issues in computer ethics and how that relates to the <strong>LaGrange</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />
Honor Code. Another goal is that no Computer Science major will have an<br />
Honor Code violation.<br />
Portfolio: Satisfactory completion of an assessment portfolio to be composed by<br />
each Computer Science senior. The portfolio is a collection of what the<br />
students deem to be their best pieces of work done in Computer Science and<br />
an explanation of why. The requirement is that 100% of students successfully<br />
complete this portfolio.<br />
Senior Seminar: Satisfactory performance by the student in delivering a<br />
presentation to faculty and students on a topic that they have researched<br />
themselves, or a presentation of what they did and learned if they had an<br />
internship. 100% of seniors are required to do this.<br />
Graduate School Track: Percentage of graduates accepted for graduate school.<br />
Employment: Goal is for at least 50% to be employed in a computer-related job<br />
within a month of graduation.<br />
Level IV:<br />
Alumni Giving: Goal is for at least 5% of graduates to contribute.<br />
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES<br />
Students who complete the Computer Science major have a wide range of employment<br />
opportunities. These include positions in programming, PC support and troubleshooting,<br />
database administration, network administration, and Web programming. Graduates of the<br />
Computer Science degree program at <strong>LaGrange</strong> <strong>College</strong> have secured positions as I.T.<br />
department managers, I.T. security specialists, systems analysts, database administrators,<br />
Webmasters, Web designers, PC support specialists, as well as other positions. Companies<br />
employing these graduates include Milliken and Co., Interface, Duracell, Hitachi, Walt Disney<br />
World (I.T. security), Chick-Fil-A (I.T. department), Total Systems Services, BellSouth, Texas<br />
Instruments, General Motors, and others.<br />
In addition, a number of graduates have gone on to graduate school in areas such as computer<br />
science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and management information systems.<br />
