REQUIREMENTS FOR A CONCENTRATION IN ART HISTORY/MUSEUM STUDIES:<br />
6 hrs. Art History Survey I and II – ARTD 1109, 1110<br />
18 hrs. Art History electives – ARTD 1111, 3103, 3105, 3106, 3107, 3108<br />
The Art of Greece and Rome, Art of the Renaissance, Art of the Seventeenth and<br />
Eighteenth Centuries in Europe and America, Art of the Nineteenth Century in Europe<br />
and America, Modern and Contemporary Art, Art of the Non-Western World.<br />
3 hrs. Studio Coursework – Three (3) courses in elective studio<br />
6 hrs. Museum Studies I and II – ARTD 3101, 3102<br />
3 hrs. Internship<br />
3 hrs. Senior Seminar – ARTD 3380—A course in which senior art history and museum<br />
studies students work on research and writing skills. They also prepare a résumé and<br />
focus on applying for graduate school.<br />

MINOR<br />
A minor in Art and Design, Art History/Museum Studies consists of 18 semester hours: at least<br />
one (1) course in art history, at least one (1) course at the 1000 level, and four (4) other courses<br />
selected in consultation with your minor advisor.<br />
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS (ARTD)<br />
*ARTD 1109 Art History Survey I. (3) Fall<br />
This course surveys the history of Western Art and architecture from the Paleolithic period<br />
through the Gothic era.<br />
*ARTD 1110 Art History Survey II. (3) Spring<br />
This course surveys the history of Western art and architecture from the early Renaissance to the<br />
beginning of the 20 th century.<br />
*ARTD 1111 Modern and Contemporary Art History. (3) Spring<br />
This course surveys the development of Western art from the beginning of the 20 th through the<br />
early 21 st century.<br />
*ARTD 1151 Basic Drawing. (3) Fall<br />
A course in the fundamentals of perceptual drawing, including line, value, composition and<br />
perspective.<br />
*ARTD 1152 2-D Design. (3) Spring<br />
A study of the basic design elements and principles. Emphasis will be on creative problem<br />
solving and development of unified designs. A study of color theory and relationships will be<br />
included.<br />
