ANTH 3800<br />
This course involves in-depth exploration into a unique topic in either Sociology or Anthropology. The course<br />
content rotates from year to year. Students may repeat the course for credit so long as the topic changes and<br />
with departmental approval.<br />
Prerequisite: successful completion of either SOCI 1000 or ANTH 1000 with a grade of ―C‖<br />
or higher.<br />
SOCI 3900 Research Methods in Social Science. (3) Fall<br />
or<br />
POLS 3300 Research Methods in Political Science. (3)<br />
A study of basic social science research methods. Topics considered include research design and data<br />
collection, measurement and causality, fitting models to data with various methods, graphic analysis, and the<br />
use of statistical software.<br />
SOCI 4000 Development of Sociological Thought. (3) Spring<br />
This course is an introduction to the development and current state of sociological theory. It focuses on the<br />
most influential figures in the development of sociological theory and their legacy in contemporary sociology.<br />
Prerequisites: SOCI 1000 and a minimum of four (4) other SOCI courses successfully<br />
completed. Senior status preferred.<br />
SOCI 4200 Social Inequality. (3) Fall<br />
This course examines social inequality, a topic which is at the core of sociological analysis and research. The<br />
classical perspectives on inequality are examined, as well as the contemporary extensions of these approaches.<br />
Particular attention is paid to class, race, and gender as separate and as intersecting axes of inequality.<br />
Prerequisite: SOCI 1000, with a grade of ―C‖ or higher.<br />
SOCI 4500 Sociology/Anthropology Internship. (3-6 hours) on demand<br />

ANTH 4500<br />
This course requires 120 hours of supervised experience (per 3 credit hours) in a local agency or office,<br />
selected readings, and an oral presentation given in one of the other SOCI/ANTH courses. Applications for<br />
internships must be submitted to the department chair in the term or semester prior to placement. Students may<br />
select a graded or Pass/No Credit option. Course may be repeated twice (for 3 hours credit) for a maximum of<br />
6 hours credit. This course does not count towards the major in Sociology.<br />
Prerequisites: Completion of SOCI 1000 with a grade of ―C‖ or higher, as well as at least two (2)<br />
other SOCI or ANTH courses with grades of ―C‖ or higher.<br />
*ANTH 1000 Introduction to Anthropology. (3) on demand<br />
An introduction to the scientific study of the origin, the behavior, and the physical, social, and cultural<br />
development of humans.<br />
ANTH 2000 Cultural and Social Anthropology. (3) on demand<br />
A study of modern anthropological theory through directed readings of classic ethnography, with special<br />
emphasis upon recent advances and trends in research.<br />
*Denotes SOCI and ANTH courses that may substitute for a CORE Humanities course in the Core<br />
