MUSI 1107-1108 Ensemble. (0-1) Fall and Spring<br />
Performance organization(s) providing ensemble experience. May be repeated for credit.<br />
Performance ensembles may include <strong>LaGrange</strong> <strong>College</strong> Chamber Singers, Women‘s Chorus,<br />
<strong>LaGrange</strong> Symphony Chorus, Percussion Ensemble, and Guitar Ensemble.<br />
Prerequisite: Audition or permission of Instructor.<br />
MUSI 1109 Beginning Classical Guitar. (1) as needed<br />
Basic techniques of Classical guitar taught in a classroom setting, intended for non-music<br />
majors. The course includes fundamentals of reading music and understanding elementary music<br />
theory. In addition, students will study examples of simple folk music and music for worship. A<br />
selection of the most useful guitar chords, suitable for beginners, and basic accompaniment<br />
patterns will be taught to allow the students to accompany their singing. Students will need to<br />
own an acoustic guitar and plan for daily practice time.<br />
MUSI 1110 Literature and Language of Music 1. (2) Spring<br />
This course will acquaint students with the appropriate language needed for a precise discussion<br />
of music and the literature that corresponds to musical evolution since notation developed. The<br />
course will also have a strong listening component, thereby encouraging more discriminate<br />
listening.<br />

A broad survey of music aimed at developing aesthetic awareness and critical analysis of music<br />
from diverse styles and genres.<br />
MUSI 1113 Ear Training 1. (2) Spring<br />
This course is designed to provide the student with basic sight singing and listening skills. Some<br />
lab time will be devoted to Internet music resources and notation using FINALE. Other topics<br />
will include basic MAC computer skills, especially as they pertain to music theory and CAI in<br />
music theory and ear training.<br />
Prerequisite: MUSI 1100, MUSI 1101, or passing score on Theory Placement<br />
