2013 ATLANTA FALCONS VETERAN PLAYERS SAM BAKER OFFENSIVE TACKLE 72 HT: 6’5” WT: 301 NFL EXP: 6 ACQ: D1B-’08 6th YEAR WITH FALCONS BIRTHDATE: 5/30/85 COLLEGE: UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TRANSACTIONS • Originally selected as a first round (21st pick overall) draft choice by Atlanta in 2008. • Signed a six-year contract with Atlanta on March 14, 2013. 2012 (FALCONS) • Started all 16 games at left tackle, protecting QB Matt Ryan’s blindside as the quarterback set franchise records for attempts, completions, completion percentage, yards, and touchdowns in 2012. • According to Stats LLC, Baker was not flagged for a holding or false start penalty all season and allowed a career low 3.5 sacks despite facing some of the NFL’s premier pass rushers. • Was named to USA Today’s All-Joe team for his unheralded performance. • Started at left tackle and was part of an offensive line that did not allow a sack against Seattle (1/13) in the NFC Divisional round. • Helped Ryan post four consecutive games with a passer rating above 100 to open the season. • Part of an offensive line that produced a 300-yard passer (Ryan), a 100-yard rusher (Michael Turner), and two 100-yard receivers (Julio Jones & Roddy White) in a win over Dallas (11/4), which was the third time in franchise history the Falcons have accomplished that feat. • Anchored an offensive line that allowed 28 sacks, which ranked tied for seventh in the NFL. CAREER • Has played in 67 career games with 58 starts in five seasons with the Falcons. Part of an offensive line that has blocked for QB Matt Ryan as he has rewritten the Falcons record books. • Started in 16 games at left tackle and was part of an offensive line that averaged 222.9 passing yards per game and 118.2 rushing yards per game in 2010. • Made 14 starts at left tackle in 2009, helping the Falcons produce back to back winning seasons for the first time in franchise history. • In his rookie season, paved the way for the Falcons to finish second in the NFL in rushing, averaging 152.7 yards per game. COLLEGE • All-America first-team selection by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, adding second-team accolades from the Associated Press, College Football News and Sports Illustrated as a senior. • A unanimous All-Pac 10 Conference first-team choice and was named the team’s Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2007. • A semi-finalist for the Lombardi Award as a senior. • Selected as the team’s Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2004. PERSONAL • Attended Tustin High School (California) and earned Super Prep, Prep Star, Student Sports and Tom Lemming Prep Football Report All-America firstteam honors. • Named to the Prep Star Top 100 Dream Team, Sporting News Hot 100 and Tom Lemming’s Top 100. • Was an Orange County Register All-Orange County first-team pick as a senior offensive and defensive lineman in 2002. • He and his wife, Antoinette, live with their two dogs, Floyd and Rojo. • In 2011, he played in 13 games with seven starts and blocked for QB Matt Ryan who threw for 4,177 yards with 29 touchdowns and RB Michael Turner who ran for 1,340 yards and 11 touchdowns.
