watercourse, one of which would replace an existing rudimentary crossing north
of the A14, the other would be a new crossing between the A14 and M1.
A public consultation was held between June and September 2008 seeking the
views of the public on three junction options and three local road network options.
There was support for an improvement scheme, with the Red Junction the most
favoured. Of the three local road network options, the Orange Local Road
Network was the most favoured.
The outline preferred option is shown below in Figure 1.

1.3 Previous FRA’s
Throughout the evolving design process a number of flood risk assessments
have been performed. A list of previous flood risk assessments is given below:
• Flood Risk Assessment completed by (JBA Consulting, July 2005)
• Addendum to stage 3 flood risk assessment – flood plain compensation
(JBA, October 2005)
• Addendum to Flood Risk Assessment produced to fulfil PPS 25
requirements (JBA, May 2007 )
This FRA seeks to take the re-design as an opportunity to produce a new standalone
FRA which will draw together all relevant information in a format which is
more suitable for the current planning environment.
