Label the Picture<br />
• Have students turn to Worksheet PP5.<br />
• Explain that for each word there are two pictures.<br />
• Tell students to write each word under its matching picture.<br />
• Have students write a sentence using the correct word.<br />
Word Box<br />
• Have students turn to Worksheet PP6.<br />
• Tell students to read the words in the box at the top of the worksheet and write<br />
each word under its matching picture.<br />
<strong>Teacher</strong> Chaining<br />
• Write hook on the board.<br />
• Ask a student to read the word, first in a segmented fashion and then blended.<br />
• Remove ‘k’ and add ‘d’ to create hood.<br />
• As you make this change, say to students, “If that is hook, what is this?”<br />
• Continue this process with the remaining words.<br />

Board Chaining<br />
• Write the word hook on the board.<br />
• Have the class read the word.<br />
• Say to the class/small group, “If this is hook, which letter do I need to change<br />
in order to make hood? Who can show me?” (Select a student to come to the<br />
board and point to the letter.)<br />
