"The importance of the break cannot be
overestimated," said Hamaker. "With the
addition of self-service units, five girls can
lake care of as many customers as could

made in five minutes."
When asked about losses due to selfservice
he said that the Fox Theatre, which
grosses $250,000 per year on its bar, has
approximately only $5 a week loss through
pilferage. Weekly inventories are kept by
each of the Evergreen Theatres on its merchandise
and any leaks can be noted
rapidly. If a higher loss than usual is noted,
it is quite likely due to dishonest employes
and can be controlled at that point.
At special children's shows the higher
priced units are placed in the glass cases
away from the tiny hands. The 6-cent
and 12-cent bars are left out, since they
are the largest seller to juvenile customers.
