6.1 PROFIBUS<br />

PROFIBUS is a continuous, open, digital communication system with a broad range of<br />

applications, particularly in manufacturing and process automation. PROFIBUS is<br />

suitable for fast, time-sensitive and complex communication tasks.<br />

PROFIBUS communication is based on the international standards IEC 61158 and<br />

IEC 61784. The application and engineering aspects are defined in the PROFIBUS<br />

<strong>User</strong> Organization guidelines. These serve to fulfil the user requirements for a<br />

manufacturer-independent and open system where the communication between<br />

devices from different manufacturers is guaranteed without modification of the<br />

devices.<br />

6.1.1 DP communication protocol<br />

The measuring systems support the DP communication protocol, which is designed<br />

for quick data exchange in the field level. The basic functionality is defined by the<br />

performance level V0. This includes cyclical data exchange as well as station and<br />

module specific diagnosis.<br />
