Known for her fresh style and inventive
use of color and texture, Canadian
artist Lynda Pogue works in both
encaustic (wax) and water-based media
to create bold abstract representational
paintings that have resonated with
viewers around the world. These are
paintings of pure expressionism, each
imbued with its own unique energy,
expressing a different meaning, tone,
and spiritual quality that connects to
viewers in new and diverse ways. Here,
each painting becomes a foray into
vibrant emotionality, where ideas and
energies are presented using fresh and
innovative means of expression.
One of the most striking aspects of
a Pogue painting is the interplay of
colors across the canvas, both visually
stimulating and deeply profound in
meaning. She begins each painting
journey with explosions of energy, hue,
and interesting surfaces that often
unfold in surprising ways. Her process is
deceptively simple: “Whatever form the
painting takes will reveal itself to me and
open up as I respond to the moment,”
she explains. What results are bold
brushstrokes of color combined with
weighty textures set in primarily abstract
compositions. Each canvas is infused
with patterns of light and shadow, with a
hint of geometric form, as she somehow
weaves all these divergent elements
together to create a sense of harmony
and purpose.
Pogue has dedicated a lifetime to inspiring
and empowering the people around
her. She has a diverse background in
teaching, keynote speaking and writing,
and is author and feature editor of
Women with Vision magazine, and has
been writing articles for ARTisSpectrum
for several years. Painting has emerged
as simply one more forum through
which she can share her vision with
the world. As she explains, “Everything
