Kristina Garon at a restaurant in NYC
Kristina Garon
My love for NYC began as a child when I lived in Lithuania, looking at photos of America in my father’s journal. It was love at
first sight and I knew I belonged there. This feeling stayed with me for decades before I finally saw it for real. I was determined
to come to the US, and although everyone thought it was not possible since at that time Lithuania was part of the Soviet Union
and boarders were closed, I managed it. I settled in sunny Los Angeles, which was a great experience, but I knew that it wasn’t
right for me. The energy there did not match mine. My son and I promised each other that when we became US citizens, we
would visit NYC to celebrate – and we did. Since then I have known for certain what I always felt – that New York is my muse,
and I belong there.
For artists NYC is a heaven. Interest in the arts is in the air, and art is highly respected. There are plenty of opportunities for
artists. When I had a large enough body of work, I knew it was time to approach galleries. Only New York galleries were on my
mind. I remember vividly the day that Agora Gallery accepted my work - I was at Art Basel, Miami, and I felt as if my Muse was
greeting me, I was overjoyed. I will never forget that day and the days after, in Agora Gallery, were equally special. There I found
my supporters and allies, people looking in the same direction as me – especially Gallery Director Angela Di Bello who helped
me and continues to help me to develop my artistic career with valuable advice. I call her my Angel! Now I feel as if I have always
known her. I can’t believe there was a time when Agora Gallery and I didn’t know each other. They have a great team and
a wonderful director who is the soul of this beautiful gallery. After my participation in exhibitions in Agora Gallery and especially
after publicity in ARTisSpectrum and ARTMine.com, other galleries in New York and abroad started sending me proposals to
show my work, and sales of my art increased as well.
For me it is not necessary to be physically in the city to be inspired and feel that New York is my Muse. I’m permanently charged
with New York’s energy, which is similar to mine, and amazingly New Yorkers accept me as one of them. When I’m in New York
I don’t take many photos or run around making sketches. All images of the city are already permanently in my mind’s eye and
in my heart. Every time I leave NYC I feel as if it’s a business trip, never as if I’m really leaving. With each painting I create I feel
that the day when I will be reunited with my Muse, NYC, is coming closer.
