Award-winning painter Iva Milanova
captures the ineffable through her
beautiful, spiritually-themed artworks.
She resists art world trends and flashy
gimmicks in favor of a deeply personal
art form that speaks directly to us from
her soul. Her work may be easily split
into two stylistic categories: energetic
abstractions and gracefully understated
portraits.
Milanova’s approach is characterized
by elegant lines juxtaposed with fierce
painterly textures. Colors appear in raw,
exciting tones trading overt naturalism
for expressive and emotional impact.
Religious themes are often present,
along with scenes of collective accord
or quiet moments of personal reflection.
The people who populate her paintings
are depicted in various forms of
abstraction. Some subjects possess soft
natural features with almond-shaped
eyes while other figures are rendered in
dynamic overlapping geometric shapes.
To instill each work with a dramatic sense
of movement, figures may be framed
by bold stripes colored in lime green,
crimson, fiery orange, and canary. Her
vigorous brushwork heaps paint upon
the canvas so that forms appear to glitter
and shift before our eyes.
Throughout Milanova’s expansive body
of work, the defining feature is a sense
of energy and heightened
awareness. Her native
country, Bulgaria, has a
longstanding tradition of folk
art. This history has helped
to infuse the artist’s creative
life with a devoted sense of
individuality and appreciation
for the divine. She explains
that she hopes that her
painting is “a haven for people
in which they feel harmony
and enjoyment. My aim is to
be a knight of the vanishing
spirituality in the world.”
Iva Milanova’s distinctive art

appearances on television
and radio as well as in
newspapers and magazines.
Her paintings have been
exhibited internationally for a
number of years in locations
such as Milan, Rome, Venice,
Berlin, New York, Chicago,
and Toronto. A member of
the Societe des Artistes
Independants in Paris and the Academie
Internationale des Arts Contemporains in
Belgium, Milanova has repeatedly been
recognized for her artistic achievements.
She lives and works in Berlin.
