Ford Weisberg
Elegantly smooth in texture, form and shape,
American artist Ford Weisberg uses digital
technology to evoke a metaphorical world through
his paintings. Using an assortment of computer
software, the artist deftly generates a fantastical
world of wonder and imagination in digital form.
Melody and rhythm are poetically tangible in
these paintings; trained as a classical musician,
Weisberg imbues his work with a lyrical cadence.
Feeling free to experiment, he utilizes a variety
of shapes and color in order to evoke universal,
contemporary experience and the subconscious,
stirring the viewer’s curiosity.
Through his digital creations, Weisberg attempts
to make visual certain truths about contemporary
reality as it is experienced. His artistic process and
methods parallel his at times whimsical aesthetic.
Beginning with impromptu, playful strokes, the
artist then molds his compositions in a dialog with
the piece itself. As its meaning emerges, he later moderates some of the original, spontaneous strokes with a neat precision. “This
play almost invariably leads me to create organically inspired imaginary forms, real in the sense of tangible, but non-existent, in
an abstract environment,” explains Weisberg. “In this way, I feel I owe much to the Surrealists and Abstract Expressionists of the
past. My subject matter is ultimately the dramas of the sub-conscious.”
Raised in New York City, Ford Weisberg has exhibited his groundbreaking digital paintings throughout the United States.
Sandra Mueller-Dick
Landscape of the Mind VII Oil on Panel 24” x 48”
The mysterious and often dreamlike paintings
of American artist Sandra Mueller-Dick
invite viewers to reconsider what’s before them,
to discover the extraordinary that lies within
the world around them. Working in watercolor,
mixed media, and oils, Mueller-Dick offers a true
exploration of the gestalt, of the essence and
mystery of natural objects and terrains regularly
encountered in everyday life. In her paintings,
larger than life objects and fantastic landscapes
replete with color and texture are set against
neutral backgrounds, so that nothing detracts from
the viewer’s encounter with the intended subject.
Mueller-Dick strives to imbue her subjects with a sense of mood in the way she integrates color with shape, so that everything is
defined by a weightiness that infuses layers of meaning and depth into her work. By conveying underlying emotions or concepts
in her paintings in this way, she instills an otherworldly quality and sense of mystery within her subjects. As she explains, “My
goal is to create rhythmic patterns throughout the painting, inviting viewers to make their own emotional response.” It is this
freedom of interpretation that renders her paintings so personal and provokes us to see the world in a different way.
Sandra Mueller-Dick currently lives and works in Brookline, Massachusetts, where she is a gallery instructor at the Museum of
Fine Arts in Boston.
