Heather Everett in Times Square, NYC
Heather Everett in Central Park, NYC
Heather Everett
My name is Heather Everett and I was overjoyed by the opportunity to be a featured artist in Agora’s “Manifestation of Milieu”
show in February of 2011. It all went well - the team at Agora was super-responsive and easy to work with. Everything was
handled pleasantly and professionally. And then it was time to come to NYC as a professional artist…
What I wanted most from my trip to NYC was to be rejuvenated and inspired... and to feel accepted. NYC gave me all of these
things. The credibility I was seeking was attained through my acceptance into and by the greatest modern art city in the world. I
was inspired by walking the streets, creating footprints alongside the geniuses of all the industries of the past and the future. Rejuvenation
came in the brisk walks through the cool air, and through taking shelter in the Met, fully immersed in the art history of
the world. Living in Florida, I have spent most of my days in flip-flops for the last 20 years, so walking in Central Park with numb
fingers and toes was a joy – especially when it started to snow! Standing there feeling little kisses of snow on my face I was reminded
of watching the snowfall out my window in the streetlamps when I was a child – and I loved those two moments equally.
Never before have I been so aware of where I came from, and where I am going. And to find that even in the biggest and most
important cities, my simple message resonates, was a revelation. That knowledge will never leave me. It will continually inspire
me to create and speak my truth. I will be back as soon as possible – guaranteed! I look forward to throwing a Frisbee in Sheep
Meadow next time!!!
How did the experience benefit me? Well, first the obvious – I am now a New York City exhibited (and sold!) artist! Aside from
being a huge confidence booster, it also came with a sense of redemption; I have known for a long time that my work is good,
and now I have the “creds” to prove it. No matter where I show or exhibit for the rest of my career, I will always have this.
I found that many people both inside the art world and out were familiar with Agora Gallery, and duly impressed. The creation,
marketing and selling of art is heavily reliant upon perception and I now feel equipped with a tool that will allow me to expose my
work to an entirely new echelon of buyers and collectors. I envision doors opening in Palm Beach, Laguna Beach and Chicago.
Since returning to my studio I have begun creating a new body of work with a much larger vision in mind. I see it as being much
more important than it has ever been. I’m growing into that skin now.
I am motivated to approach new opportunities with places and people I would have never considered before. I’m not holding
back any longer…
The greatest thing that stands out from the trip was that it represented the opportunity to show what I’ve got. I will forever remember
this as one of the important highlights of my career.
