The Northern Social Work Program in Thompson, Manitoba (BSW program) is designed
for mature students who, without the support of the program, would be unable to successfully
complete a university degree due to lack of financial resources, lack of academic qualifications,
remote location, and structural barriers. This is also an Access program, which, similarly to the
Inner-City Program, acknowledges structural barriers that some students face. The curriculum is
instructors and field placements with local agencies, organizations, and in northern communities.
• Non-credit courses in writing, study and critical thinking skills
• Individual academic advising
• Class and individual tutorials
• Extended class time if necessary
• On-site library services, including internet
• Class discussions and group projects
• Access to computers
