Group 14 Hong Kong Mould & Die Council (HKMDC)
In the past year, the Council established a new Education and
Training subcommittee to support academia in formulating
appropriate courses for students interested in the industry. This
was in addition to the four subcommittees on China and Hong
Kong Affairs, Trade and Overseas Promotion, Membership and
Social Functions, and Technologies and Event.
The Council continued to organise the Hong Kong Mould &
Die Council Award to recognise outstanding performers in the
industry and arouse interests among the younger generation in
joining the industry. To encourage participation, a visit to the
TK Group Ltd, 2006 Award winner, was arranged in July 2007 to
highlight its operation and successful management experience. The
presentation ceremony was held in concurrence with the Council’s
Annual Dinner in November 2007.
In September 2007, the Council, Guangzhou Guangya Messe
Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and DEMAT Gmbh jointly organised Asiamold
2007 at the Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition
Centre to provide a fully international and professional platform for
mould makers. A press briefing was held on 27 April in Dongguang
to announce the partnership and details of the exhibition.
In November 2007, the Council co-organised two missions
to Guangzhou and Sichuan with the Hong Kong Trade and
Development Council and Hong Kong Metals Manufacturers
Association respectively. The visits not only furthered collaboration
among members and potential business partners, but also enhanced
business development opportunities. The tours visited Guangzhou
Toyota Motor Co Ltd and FAW Toyota Motor Co Ltd.
In November and December 2007, the Council and Hong Kong
Productivity Council jointly hosted two seminars - SmarTalent
Development Program and Creating World-Class Management
Standards, to help members build a solid talent pool for future
succession planning and enhance their competence in achieving
safe and quality products and services.
Into its second year, the well-received Hong Kong Mould and
Die Council Basketball Championship was held between January
and March 2008 for member companies to battle it out on
the basketball courts. A total of 12 teams competed for the
championship. The Championship presentation ceremony was held
concurrently in the Council Spring Dinner in March 2008.
Furthermore, during the past year, a series of plastic and metal
forums as well as seminars were held periodically for industry
practitioners to present the latest industry technology.
