Microearthquake studies have been published in a wide variety <strong>of</strong> journals<br />

<strong>and</strong> reports. They also appear in languages other than English, such<br />

as Japanese, Russian, Chinese, German, <strong>and</strong> French. In the course <strong>of</strong><br />

preparing this work, we have collected more than 2000 articles related to<br />

this subject. It is clearly beyond our abilities to treat every article equally<br />

<strong>and</strong> fairly, especially the non-English papers. Nevertheless, we have selected<br />

about 700 papers <strong>and</strong> books for references. The reference list is<br />

arranged alphabetically by authors. If the paper is not in English, we have
