a. The Hawthorne Drive Connection between Notre Dame Avenue and Barrydowne<br />

Road and the Montrose Avenue Extension southerly to the Hawthorne Drive<br />

Connection.<br />

b. Operational improvements and the westerly extension <strong>of</strong> Ste. Anne Road under the<br />

railway tracks to Pine Street/College Street.<br />

c. The extension <strong>of</strong> Treeview Gateway Drive from Long Lake Road to Regent Street.<br />

9. Recognize and protect for the following long-term road improvement needs that may be<br />

required beyond the planning horizon.<br />

a. The widening <strong>of</strong> Falconbridge Highway from Garson-Coniston Road to Radar Road.<br />

b. The construction <strong>of</strong> the Northeast Bypass from Maley Drive to Highway 17.<br />

c. The extension <strong>of</strong> LaSalle Boulevard easterly to the future Northeast Bypass.<br />

d. The widening <strong>of</strong> MR 55 from Highway 17 to Big Nickel Mine Drive.<br />

e. Improvement <strong>of</strong> the Frood Road/Regent Street corridor to create an alternative northsouth<br />

arterial route.<br />

10. Communicate with the Ontario Ministry <strong>of</strong> <strong>Transportation</strong> the following:<br />

a. The need to widen the Southwest Bypass (Provincial facility) to 4 lanes.<br />

b. The importance <strong>of</strong> four-laning Highway 69 from <strong>Sudbury</strong> southerly to Parry Sound<br />

which will promote <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Sudbury</strong>’s economic growth.<br />

c. The need to widen sections <strong>of</strong> Highway 17 east <strong>of</strong> the Southeast bypass, and<br />

Highway 144 west <strong>of</strong> Chelmsford in the long-term (beyond the planning horizon).<br />

d. The need for a Northeast Bypass from Maley Drive to Highway 17 in the long-term<br />

(beyond the planning horizon).<br />

Funding<br />

11. Seek funding support from the Federal and Provincial Governments for the<br />

transportation system through grants and/or additional revenue streams such as a<br />

portion <strong>of</strong> the gasoline tax.<br />

12. Negotiate cost sharing agreements with major industries when these industries will<br />

benefit from the transportation improvement being proposed.<br />

13. Explore means to generate new sources <strong>of</strong> revenues such as applying selective charges<br />

(area specific development charges) to new developments in areas where growth is not<br />

desirable and expensive to serve.<br />

14. Seek ways to reduce costs for both capital and operating activities through operational<br />

efficiencies, technology application, and innovation.<br />
