2.3. Existing Traffic<br />

On a daily basis, almost 70% <strong>of</strong> the trips made in <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Sudbury</strong> are by automobile.<br />

According to data provided by <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Sudbury</strong>, there has been minimal change in the daily<br />

traffic volumes between 1999 and 2002. According to 2001 data, the major roads within<br />

<strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Sudbury</strong> carry a range <strong>of</strong> daily traffic volumes from a high <strong>of</strong> 45,000 AADT on the<br />

Kingsway (at Bancr<strong>of</strong>t Drive) to a low <strong>of</strong> 3550 AADT on Highway 144 north <strong>of</strong> Onaping Falls.<br />

The daily traffic volumes on the major roads within <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Sudbury</strong> are illustrated on<br />

Figure 2.3.1.<br />

2.3.1. Major Travel Flows<br />

On a daily basis, approximately 330,000 person trips are made within <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Sudbury</strong> by all<br />

modes <strong>of</strong> travel including automobile, transit, school bus, bicycling and walking.<br />

The existing daily travel demand (daily trips) within the study area, extracted from the<br />

household survey, is summarized in Table 2.3.1.<br />
