Pearl Burfiend ASFRC HAS THREE ESSENTIAL DUTIES Student Representation Provide Student Activities Oversee Student Clubs All students at the college are automatically members of the ASFRC, are invited to all ASFRC activities, and are encouraged to attend the open ASFRC meetings (the meeting schedule is posted at the ASFRC office). Student Representation The student body is organized into a self-governing body known as the Associated Students of Feather River College, or ASFRC. This body is an integral part of the college community that is recognized by the Superintendent/President and the Board of Trustees of the District, and functions under the Associated Students Constitution; copies are available at the AS Office. Associate Student elections for executive officers are traditionally held in the spring, with supplemental elections for senators and committee representatives in the fall. The ASFRC is an important component of the college’s shared governance structure. Under shared governance, members of the different groups that makeup the college community—students, classified staff, faculty, and administrators—are involved through campus committees in the process by which policies are made and college actions are determined. AS officers serve on these committees and are responsible for bringing committee information back to the AS government meetings for input.
Student Activities ASFRC sponsors a variety of extra and cocurricular activities designed to reflect the interests of a diverse student population. The ASFRC organization plans entertaining and educational events such as cultural and social awareness programs, special topic presentations, dances, dinners, concerts and recreational activities. Student Clubs Student clubs are open to all students and provide an opportunity to pursue special interests with those who share them. Clubs vary from year to year depending on student interests and their formation is actively encouraged. Clubs are required to have a club advisor (usually an FRC faculty or staff member), and must file for a club charter with the Associate Students. At least one club member is expected to attend ASFRC meetings on a regular basis to promote cooperative and coordinated activity planning among the various campus organizations. ASFRC is proud to support the various student clubs to help students get the most out of their college experience. Some of the current clubs include: Students in Free Enterprise – Focuses on community outreach and entrepreneurship along with ethics and personal success skills. All interested students, artists or non-artists, are welcome.
