Job Description:
Operating and cleaning a woollen
card, piecing roving, doffing and
delivering full condenser bobbins to
the spinning section, bringing back
empty bobbins. Sweeping floor. Be
responsible for producing good
quality roving and maintaining production
on carding engines. Keeping
different types of waste separate.
I. Trade Theory:
Job Skill Standards:
1. Know the purpose of carding
and the working principle of a
carding engine.
2. Know the dangerous parts and
safety devices on a carding
engine.
3. Know the names of the main
working parts of a carding
engine.
4. Be aware of the importance of
keeping a carding engine in a
clean condition.
5. Know how to differentiate between
identification marks on
condenser bobbins of different
counts and blends.
6. Understand the transmission of
motion and the direction of
rotation of the various belts,
ropes and gear drives on a
carding engine.
7. Know the effects on quality of a
badly-running feed lattice and
why any breaks at the scotch
feed should be carefully pieced.
Also understand the importance
of changing condenser bobbins
after any malfunotion and checking
the weight per yard of doffed
roving.
