II. Trade SM11: Be competent in:
1. Starting and stopping a drawing
frame, threading up slivers, starting
ends, piecing the sliver,
doffing full cans, changing and
fixing the supply sliver cans.
2. Differentiating between markings
on cans of slivers.
3. Cleaning the drawing frame
efficiently according to the
schedule.
4. Identifying irregular drafting or
irregular selvedges and making
necessary corrections.
5. Taking corrective action if the
machine cannot be stopped by
automatic stopping device when
the sliver is broken down or when
the can is full or during roller
lapping.
6. Taking corrective action if the
operation of rollers, calenders and
clearers are not in order.
7. Identifying the different counts of
sliver, as well as knowing the
difference between carded sliver,
semi-drawn and drawn sliver,
by different can marks, thus
avoiding misuse.
III. Skill Standard:
"A" Grade Standard
Piecing 4 adjacent breaks behind
the frame in 12 sec.
Piecing 4 adjacent breaks between
front roller and calender roller in 40
sec.
"B" Grade Standard
Piecing 4 adjacent breaks behind
the frame in 16 sec.
Piecing 4 adjacent breaks between
front roller and calender roller in 50
sec.
"C" Grade Standard
Piecing 4 adjacent breaks behind
the frame in 20 sec.
Piecing 4 adjacent breaks between
front roller and calender roller in 60
sec.
The above Standards are based on
10" diameter can being used.
