regular lubrication and the defects
of over lubrication, and also
be able to distinguish between the
different kinds of lubricants and
know their merits and demerits,
11. Trade Skill: Be competent in:
1. Operating, stopping, starting and
stripping a carding engine.
2. Checking and adjusting the setting
correctly for feed plate
taker-in, cylinder and doffer.
3. Piecing, fixing and changing the
belts, ropes and chains.
4. Changing the pulleys and gears.
5. Cleaning-out and adding lubricants
to the lubricating points as
per schedule.
III. Skill Standard:
Factories should make their own
standards of skill but a competent
card stripper should be able to strip a
carding engine according to schedule
in li- minutes, be able to lubricate
the carding engines according to
schedule, and be able to check and
carry out minor repairs on carding
engines.
IV. Trade Tests:
1. Strip one carding engine properly
and within a certain time according
to correct procedure.
2. Adjust the setting between the
stripping roller and cylinder and
the stripping roller and doffer, all
the settings must be adjusted correctly
and the same on both sides.
3. Piece a rope within a reasonable
time. The piecing must be even
and strong.
4. Answer questions satisfactorily
on:
(a) The dangerous parts and
safety devices on the carding
engine.
(£») The names of main machine
parts.
