VirtualNIC Interface Configuration and Administration
NOTE:
When a viport is using two different IOCs for primary and secondary paths,
then the host will join the multicast group for the IOC on the primary path as
well as the multicast group for the IOC on the secondary path. The
secondary path and the corresponding multicast group will not be used until
a failover occurs.
The create multicast group issued by the EVIC, along with the join multicast
group and leave multicast group requests issued by the host are handled by the
subnet manager. For details, refer to the Fabric Manager Users Guide.
On the EVIC, IB_MULTICAST can be enabled or disabled manually using the CLI.
For details, refer to the Ethernet section of the Hardware CLI Reference Guide. A
reboot of the EVIC is required after IB_MULTICAST has been enabled or
disabled.
On the host, IB_MULTICAST is enabled by default. The user must add
IB_MULTICAST=FALSE to the VNIC configuration file to disable the feature. To view
the current status of the feature do the following:
cat
/sys/class/infiniband_qlgc_vnic/interfaces//*
path/multicast_state
For each path, there is a primary_path and a secondary_path directory present
and the contents of the multicast_state file contain:
feature not enabled - feature is disabled at either host or
EVIC or both ends
state=Joined & Attached MGID: MLID:
To disable IB_MULTICAST at the host edit the /etc/infiniband/qlgc_vnic.cfg
file to add IB_MULTICAST=FALSE for the viport inside both Primary and
Secondary.
Starting, Stopping and Restarting the VirtualNIC Driver
Once you have created a configuration file, you can start the VNIC driver and
create the VNIC interfaces specified in the configuration file.
NOTE:
Ensure you are logged in as a root user to start, stop, or restart the VNIC
driver.
