Appropriate authorities
This is the driver-licencing authority in your city administration or your district administration office.
Procedural process
The request is to be made in person together with a completed form signed at the authorities, as the
application request form is sent to the Federal Printing Berlin for the production of the driving licence card.
Necessary documents:
Proof of identification or passport
Papers issued for original residental registration in Germany
one passport photo
Foreign driver‘s licence with a translation (if it is not an EU or EWR driver‘s licence)
An “exceptional” agreement to remain in Germany by the Deparment of Immigration is not sufficient.
Costs
To convert the driving licence:
EU and “Anlage 11- Staaten” without a probation period: 35 €
EU and “Anlage 11- Staaten” with a probation period: 35.80 €
All other countries without a probation period: 42.60 €
All other countries with a probation period: 43.40 €
