There are three different kinds of houses in Germany: single family homes, townhouses/duplexes and
multi-family homes. Single family homes, townhouses and duplexes are offered depending on location
and property size. Buying real estate should only be considered if a long-term or continued stay is
planned. Apartments in multi-family houses vary greatly in size, room layout and services offered. The
choice exists between art nouveau mansions or older houses, which create a very beautiful ambience, or

Compared to other regions, the Rhine-Neckar region represents high standards of living with appropriate
prices. The rent can vary greatly and depends mainly on the location and the comfort an individual is
used. The average rent rate can be located in the “Mietspiegel”, assessed for every large city which
specifies the rental standard, available from your township or from the tenant association. The Euro has
been the currency in Germany since January 2002.
