While preparing the system <strong>for</strong> a <strong>Windows</strong> installation, STATE.EXE moves<br />

the client through the states shown in Table 4.<br />

State Description<br />

NEW Indicates the first stage of the client installation process.<br />

STATE.EXE creates a partition, as specified in STATE.FIL<br />

under keyword - PartitionSize.<br />

PREP Partition preparation stage. STATE.EXE <strong>for</strong>mats the<br />

partition.<br />

Post-Format Format verification.<br />

Pre-Copy Preparation <strong>for</strong> copying files across the network.<br />

XCOPY1 <strong>Windows</strong> files that are brought to the client.<br />

Post-Xcopy1 Copy verification.<br />

XCOPY2 STATE.EXE copies any other files across the network.<br />

Post-Xcopy2 Copy verification.<br />

INSTALL <strong>Windows</strong> Setup process is ready to start.<br />

HYBRID STATE.EXE sends HDBOOT.COM to the client on all<br />

subsequent boots (this boots the client locally) until an<br />

administrator resets the client.<br />

ERROR An error occurred while STATE.EXE tried to prepare the<br />

system <strong>for</strong> the installation of <strong>Windows</strong>. The error number<br />

will follow the error. For more details, consult the log file<br />

on the client directory on server. Help is also available on<br />

the error number. For example, type HELP STA0007 <strong>for</strong><br />

help on error number seven.<br />

2.4.2.1 The STATE file (STATE.FIL)<br />

In addition to the STATE field, STATE.FIL contains the following fields, as<br />

shown in Table 5, when it is created.<br />
