Priority areas include:<br />

• Allocation Order and Timber Release Plans;<br />

• Wood Utilisation Plans;<br />

• Planning of timber harvesting operations;<br />

• The performance of timber harvesting operations against the Code and other<br />

relevant regulatory requirements;<br />

• Regeneration and coupe finalisation.<br />

Other factors that may also need to be considered in selecting audit targets include:<br />

• Geographical regions;<br />

• Forest types;<br />

• Site specific issues, such as:<br />

o<br />

o<br />

o<br />

o<br />

o<br />

Flora values (eg rainforest);<br />

Fauna values (eg threatened species);<br />

Fire salvage operations;<br />

Catchments; and<br />

Cultural values.<br />

There may also be times, when it is appropriate under the statutory environmental<br />

audit framework for environmental auditors to investigate activities and/or events or<br />

conditions outside the scope of the audit that present an imminent hazard to the<br />

environment or impacts on beneficial uses. Auditors are expected to pursue such<br />

investigations where professional judgement leads to the conclusion that to do so<br />

complies with their obligations as an appointed auditor under the Environment<br />

Protection Act 1970 and would likely provide a materially enhanced understanding of<br />

the management of the forest.<br />

2.2.3 Environmental Values<br />

In assessing the risk of harm or detriment to the environment, the following beneficial<br />

uses are considered broadly relevant to the FAP:<br />

• Life, health and wellbeing of humans;<br />

• Life, health and wellbeing of other forms of life, including the protection of<br />

ecosystems and biodiversity; and<br />

• Local amenity and aesthetic enjoyment.<br />
