Past and Current Programmes
The main action of the French Embassy in the field of technical cooperation is, in cooperation with the US Embassy, the rehabilitation of the civilian
airport of Dushanbe (main pist) . This action has begun in summer 2003 and probably will be completed in the course of the year 2004.
While the US Embassy has provided hard cash for this operation (USD 2,3 millions), the French part is providing man power, with a team of about
thirty persons and their equipment, for a value of about EUROS 2,2 millions (about USD 2,800,000).
Meanwhile, the "military cooperation" is going on ever since French Army has established in Tajikistan (upon invitation of Tajik authorities) the
aerian component of his forces engaged in an anti-terrorist fight in Afghanistan. The amount of annual spending of the French Army in Tajikistan is
about EUROS 2,3 millions (about USD 2,900,000 ) including EUROS 250,000 (USD 316,455) of gifts (uniforms etc), formations (in France or in
Tajikistan).
Also we are contributing to the "formation of Tajik cadres" in different fields (banking, justice, health, police…) for an amount of about EUROS
30,000 (about USD 38,000) every year. This year these programmes will be expended in new fields such as tourism.
Our main objective is to support the construction of state of law in Tajikistan, the economic reforms, the renewal of administration and legislations,
along the fight against narco-traffic.
We have an active "cultural policy", and in this frame we finance diverse cultural activities, for an amount of about EUROS 55,000 (USD 69,620) a
year, including EUROS 15,000 (USD 18,987) to support artistic creations and traditions in the country.
By these policies, we want to contribute to cultural diversity and to the enrichment of dialogue between cultures. In this field, this year we will support
the revival of Tajik Opera and Ballet Theatre – which is also encouraged by the Tajik authorities - Opera and Ballet Theatre, by organizing a seminar
about opera in Tajiki language, with a special tribute to the memory of Ziyodullo Shahidi.
