Gorse
Two projects for Gorse will soon be underway in the municipality. Council
received a small amount of money from the Cradle Coast NRM ‘Local
Government Incentive’ grants late last year. It was decided that this would
offered to landowners who had reasonably small, infestations of Gorse. The
justification being to try and clean up the outlying areas, leaving the two main
areas of Table Cape and Waratah to be tackled where more funding becomes
available.
Cradle Coast NRM have implemented a Gorse control project in other
municipalities along the Coast, and will now offer this to property owners in
Waratah-Wynyard. This is a much larger grant program, which will mean
work can begin on some of the larger infestations.
If must be noted that both these grants are not a ‘handout’ to the landowner.
Anyone wishing to take advantage of this money, must sign a contract to
agree that once a contractor has been employed to carry out the initial works,
they (the landowner) will maintain the area for at least three years.
