Correspondence IN FAVOUR MAYOR HYLAND CR CHALK CR DUNIAM CR FAIRBROTHER CR FENTON CR FRIEDERSDORFF CR MOORE CR WALSH Enclosures:- refer to Enclosure Document Page 74 - Alan Dunham - 13 March 2007 CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 89/07 REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE – 2007 TOUR OF TASMANIA ROAD CYCLING CLASSIC (103.01) Correspondence has been received from Caribou Publications Pty Ltd, the organisers of the 2007 Tour of Tasmania Road Cycling Classic, requesting that Council give consideration to making a contribution of $3,000 toward the event. The 2007 Tour of Tasmania Road Cycling Classic forms part of the 12 th Tattersalls Cycling Series and it is proposed that Wynyard host the finish of the Tour’s sixth stage from Burnie on Thursday 4 October. Further details of the request, together with general information about the event, are included in the enclosure document. OFFICERS COMMENTS In the event that Council resolves to financially support this event, then a budgetary provision will need to be made by Council when considering its 2007-2008 Annual Plan and Budget. It is not known if holding the stage finish in Wynyard is dependent upon Council financially supporting the Tour. It could be argued that the potential benefits to the Waratah-Wynyard municipal area in return for the $3,000 sponsorship may be limited. It is suggested that Council decline the sponsorship offer. Alternatively, Council may resolve to support the event financially. There is little detail, at this time, in relation to the traffic management requirements of the organisers. Irrespective of whether or not Council resolves to support the event financially, Council staff may need to hold discussions with the event organisers in relation to traffic management issues and any non-financial assistance that may be required of Council. If the stage finish is still to be held in Wynyard, the event organisers are to be invited to discuss any relevant traffic management issues with Council staff.
