88/07 RESIDENT REQUEST - SEALING OF ACCESS ROAD TO
SOMERSET TENNIS CLUB
Correspondence has been received from Mr A Dunham, requesting that
Council consider the sealing of the gravel access road that commences at the
Esplanade and provides access to the Somerset Tennis Club and foreshore
area.
The writers concerns with the current situation are as follows:
• Vehicles driving at inappropriate speeds
• Hoon behaviour
• Dust
Mr Dunham considers that upgrading of the gravel access road would address
the issues raised.
OFFICERS COMMENTS
The gravel access road provides vehicular access to the Somerset Tennis
Courts and the foreshore area beyond.
Recently some 20m of the access road and intersection were surfaced with
asphalt to address dust issues and reduce the transfer of gravel to the
Esplanade Road surface.
The volume of traffic using the access road will vary according to the level of
activity at the tennis courts and foreshore area. The level of maintenance
required to maintain the road in good order is not excessive.
