Meet six Chubb managers who are
representative of the many employees
who contributed to our outstanding
results in 2005.
Hired nearly 25 years ago to
establish Chubb’s Denver
boiler and machinery insurance
operations, Susan Waltermire,
Senior Vice President and Denver
Branch Regional Manager, has
brought underwriting teams
together to meet customer needs
ever since. In her previous
position as a Branch Manager in
Illinois, Susan helped grow the
branch’s premiums by more than
140% in eight years.
“I love the challenge of going
into a new marketplace, working
with new agents and motivating
new staff,” says Susan. “It keeps
me fresh, and I’ve learned from
the people in every branch office
I’ve worked in. As I’ve moved
through various positions, I’ve
learned to balance a strong
underwriting culture with a strong
sales objective, and that’s enabled
me to grow branch operations
while keeping them profitable.”
Since joining Chubb
Commercial Insurance in
1992 as a pricing actuary, Shu Lin
has risen through the ranks to
become Vice President and
Deputy Chubb Personal Insurance
Actuarial Manager in charge of
geographic profitability analysis
and pricing strategies throughout
the United States.
Shu has advanced her career
by contributing far beyond the
responsibilities of her various
positions. For the past several
years, she has utilized her
Taiwanese heritage and actuarial
background to help expand
Chubb’s operations in China
and Taiwan. In addition, Shu
co-founded Chubb’s Asian-
American Business Network.
“I try to position myself as a
model for Asian female
employees, so they can see that
I’m moving up the corporate
ladder and hopefully do the same
thing,” says Shu. “Chubb values
diversity very highly. For the past
14 years, I’ve always felt included
and appreciated by all the senior
managers with whom I’ve worked.”
A24-year industry veteran,
Cliff Thomas is Senior Vice
President and San Francisco
Retail/Brokerage Branch Manager,
overseeing Chubb’s Northern
California business and its
relationships with insurance
brokers across the Western United
States. In his previous job as the
Pleasanton, California Branch
Manager, Cliff helped the branch
earn two Gold Branch Awards
by exceeding profit, growth and
expense goals in 2002 and 2003.
Cliff also serves on the
executive committee of the
Insurance Industry Charitable
Foundation and the board of the
Independent Agents and Brokers
of the West as the only carrier
representative. “Chubb has always
taken a leadership role in the
business community at our most
senior level,” Cliff says. “I realized
very early on that the organization
feels strongly that we should not
only be individual leaders within
our industry but also leaders of
the communities in which we do
business.”
