Starting at Chubb in
underwriting support in 1971,
Patricia Hall has held a variety of
positions in operations. As
Operations Practice Support
Services Manager, she is
responsible for learning and
development and process services
for her division. She is currently
developing a curriculum to train
line managers in the science of
process management.
“I like to ask the question, ‘So
what’” says Patricia. “I use this to
discern the impact that our
projects and deliverables will have
on bottom-line results. It
encourages my staff to think
differently about what they
accomplish.” To drive this point
home to her managers, Patricia has
placed “So what” signs on their
desks.
One of Chubb’s first female
African-American Vice Presidents,
Patricia has also led many of the
company’s diversity efforts, helping
to develop the Chubb Multi-
Ethnic Alliance and participating
in the Minority Development
Council and the Women’s
Development Council.
During her 18 years with
Chubb, Veronica Somarriba
has traveled the globe, working in
Florida, Illinois, New York, Puerto
Rico and the United Kingdom.
Having perfected her ability to
adapt American insurance
products to an international
market, Veronica currently works
in London as Vice President and
European Zone Underwriting
Manager for Chubb’s specialty
technology business and is
responsible for underwriting and
creating strategies to develop
Chubb’s business in 10 different
European markets.
“In addition to understanding
yourself and your company, you
need to be flexible in order to
succeed in a multicultural,
multinational setting,” says
Veronica. “It’s not about
integrating or implementing the
American way, but about finding
common ground. You have to be
able to match your skills, talents
and assets to the local marketplace.”
Beginning his career with
Chubb in 1983 as a property
and marine underwriter, Senior
Vice President Peter Tucker was
recently named New York City
Branch Manager. In his previous
position as the Westchester, New
York Branch Manager, Peter
consistently grew the branch’s
premiums at a rate well above the
industry average while maintaining
profitable underwriting results.
In addition, Peter worked with
his Westchester staff to develop
three tools that have been adopted
by the company nationwide,
including a prospect tracking tool,
a cross-selling tool and
underwriting associate template
diagnostics. “It’s not just about
today’s results,” says Peter. “What
really matters are the dynamics
you’re putting in place to sustain
them year in, year out. These are
the kinds of tools and processes
that sustain the business.”
