Limited Access Highways<br />
Route 2 in <strong>Colchester</strong><br />
<strong>Colchester</strong> is served by Routes 2 and 11, limited access highways that<br />
connect Hartford to the New London and Norwich areas. Limited access<br />
highways are intended to move large volumes <strong>of</strong> traffic between major<br />
regional activity centers and such roads are maintained by the State <strong>of</strong><br />
Connecticut Department <strong>of</strong> Transportation (CTDOT). <strong>Colchester</strong> is served<br />
by six exits on Route 2 (exits 16 through 21) and one exit on Route 11 (exit<br />
6).<br />
These limited access highways improve <strong>Colchester</strong>’s accessibility to and<br />
from other areas. However, there are only a few locations where people can<br />
travel from one side <strong>of</strong> the highway to the other. In addition, the<br />
configuration <strong>of</strong> entrance and exit ramps limits the utility <strong>of</strong> the road for local<br />
trips.<br />
