The follow<strong>in</strong>g lists key plann<strong>in</strong>g and community build<strong>in</strong>g progress s<strong>in</strong>ce the 2005 Charrette.<br />
Development<br />
• Sheraton Hotel & Condos - new construction with NMTC and mixed use<br />
• Purchase of Red Lion Bar and conversion to Zeitgeist Arts Center<br />
• Blackwater Lounge redevelopment at Greysolon Plaza<br />
• Purchase of Carlson Book Build<strong>in</strong>g for future re<strong>in</strong>vestment with an arts focus<br />
• Purchase of NorShor Theater by the Duluth Economic Development Authority for historic redevelopment<br />
<strong>in</strong>to a community theater (study and bus<strong>in</strong>ess plann<strong>in</strong>g underway <strong>in</strong> partnership with the Duluth Playhouse)<br />
• Old City Hall restoration to Tycoons Restaurant<br />
• Coney Island Build<strong>in</strong>g redevelopment reta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g historic character<br />
• Weiland Block redevelopment with NMTC retail, offices, and condos<br />
• YMCA renovation<br />
• Radisson re<strong>in</strong>vestment<br />
• Comfort Suites expansion <strong>in</strong> Canal Park<br />
• Canal Park Lodge development (tear down and rebuild )<br />
• Bayfront District plann<strong>in</strong>g process with city and private development for mixed use with mar<strong>in</strong>a component<br />
• San Marco Apartments development (new construction of 70 supportive hous<strong>in</strong>g units <strong>in</strong> place of a<br />
vacant, blighted block which was a major crime issue)<br />
• Skywalk expansion from Lake Avenue to Tech Center, across Superior Street from the Weiland Block to<br />
the Tech Village and from Greysolon to Medical District Ramp serv<strong>in</strong>g the downtown, hotel, and medical<br />
district. This also l<strong>in</strong>ks the downtown and Hillside.<br />
• St Luke’s expansion with new construction on East 2nd St.<br />
• Essentia expansion with new LEED approved medical complex on East 1st St.<br />
• YWCA historic preservation and conversion to the Gimaajii permanent supportive hous<strong>in</strong>g and American<br />
Indian Center facility scheduled to open <strong>in</strong> 2012<br />
• Redevelopment of the Fire House #1 Property and the 100 block of East 4th St. adjacent to the 4th St.<br />
market and Hemlock garage <strong>in</strong>to 40 units of workforce, high quality rental hous<strong>in</strong>g. Construction will beg<strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>in</strong> Nov. 2011.<br />
• Planned redevelopment of the 100 Block of West 4th St. on the upper side <strong>in</strong>to the Hillside Apartments, a<br />
44 unit apartment build<strong>in</strong>g, with extensive support services and a family emergency shelter (6 units) to be<br />
developed by NCLT, Center City Hous<strong>in</strong>g, and CHUM. Scheduled for 2013 open<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
