1.7 Ratings and awards<br />

The evaluations by the leading specialist ratings agencies<br />

and by a number of ethical fund managers indicate the<br />

Company’s performance in its sector. The evaluations and<br />

awards underline external recognition of the Group’s sustainable<br />

development programs.<br />

Ethical stock market indices<br />

A key performance indicator was set in the Planet & Society<br />

Barometer for the duration of the 2009-2011 One program: to<br />

ensure <strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong>’s presence in the four major SRI (Socially<br />

Responsible Investing) indices – the DJSI World, the DJSI Europe,<br />

the ASPI Eurozone and the FTSE4Good.<br />

At year-end 2011, <strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> was included in three of the<br />

leading ethical investment indices, compared with two in 2010. In<br />

fact, the Group was confi rmed in the DJSI Europe index and the ASPI<br />

Eurozone index, rejoined the DJSI World index, and was excluded<br />

from the FTSE4Good index because part of its activity is within the<br />

military sector (1%, mainly in electrical distribution). This last index is<br />

therefore not a priority target for the 2012-2014 period.<br />

Dow Jones Sustainability (DJSI) indices<br />

<strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> is part of the 2011 DJSI World and DJSI Europe<br />

Evaluation for this family of indices is provided by Sustainable Asset<br />

Management (SAM), an independent asset manager headquartered<br />

in Switzerland.<br />

Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI)<br />

<strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> was among the 52 companies of the CDLI in<br />

2011; companies chosen for their understanding of climate change<br />

challenges in business.<br />

Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI)<br />

<strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> was selected in the CPLI in 2011 as one of<br />

29 companies chosen for their commitment and action plans to<br />

fi ght climate change.<br />

ASPI Eurozone Index<br />

The ASPI Eurozone (Advanced Sustainable Performance Indices)<br />

listing tracks the fi nancial performance of 120 leading euro zone<br />

sustainability performers from the DJ Euro Stoxx benchmark<br />

fi nancial universe. Vigeo ratings are used to select the listed stocks,<br />

in keeping with ASPI Eurozone guidelines.<br />

Ethibel Sustainability Indices<br />

In 2011, <strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> was included in the Ethibel Sustainability<br />

Index (ESI) Excellence Europe and Ethibel Sustainability Index (ESI)<br />

Excellence Global indices.<br />

FTSE4Good Indices<br />

The evaluation allowing inclusion into the FTSE4Good was carried<br />

out by the British agency EIRIS. <strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> does not<br />

fulfi l the inclusion criteria because part of its activity is within the<br />

military sector.<br />

Awards 2011<br />

Among the recognitions for sustainable development received in<br />

2011, the Group highlights the following:<br />

• Gigaton Award: the Carbon War Room awarded <strong>Schneider</strong><br />

<strong>Electric</strong> the Gigaton Prize for its leadership in energy effi ciency<br />

and the development of the smart grid to effectively fi ght global<br />

warming.<br />

• Global 100 most sustainable corporations: <strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong><br />

reached 26th place in the ranking by Corporate Knights Inc.<br />

• Ethisphere: <strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> was one of the 100 most ethical<br />

companies following ranking by Ethisphere.<br />

• Zayed Future Energy prize: <strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> received the<br />

Zayed Future Energy prize in the Large Businesses category<br />

in recognition of its contribution to renewable energies and<br />

sustainable development.<br />

• Green Cross for Safety: the United States National Safety<br />

Council awarded the Green Cross for Safety medal to <strong>Schneider</strong><br />

<strong>Electric</strong> North America.<br />

• Human Capital Trophy: Michael Page International and Le<br />

Monde awarded <strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> this trophy in the category<br />

of Management Internationalisation from among CAC 40<br />

companies.<br />

• Best workplace in Brazil and China: <strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> was<br />

recognised in the 150 Best companies to work for in Brazil<br />

(by Voce S/A) and the 50 Best workplaces in China (by Staffers<br />

magazine and the China Business newspaper).<br />

• Annual General Meeting Award: <strong>Schneider</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> was<br />

recognised by Capitalcom from among the CAC 40 companies<br />

on more than 80 criteria of readability, transparency and provision<br />

of relevant information announced at the Annual General Meeting.<br />
