industry AACDS PARTNERS with A5M AACDS GRADUATES CAN NOW FAST-TRACK THEIR CERTIFICATION IN ANTI- AGEING MEDICINE. The Australasian Academy of Cosmetic Dermal Science (AACDS) is pleased to announce their partnership with the Australasian Academy of Anti- Ageing Medicine (A5M). The partnership provides AACDS graduates with a streamlined pathway into the fi eld of Anti-Ageing Medicine. The new unit “Principles of Anti-Ageing Medicine” is a core unit of the Nationally Accredited qualifi cations: the Graduate Diploma of Cosmetic Nursing and Graduate Diploma of Dermal Therapies. On successful completion of the unit, students will gain advanced standing into A5M’s Certifi cation in Anti-Ageing Medicine for Allied Health Professionals. This effectively reduces the course duration and workload by a third. AACDS Course Coordinator and cosmetic physician Dr Cuong Danh states: ‘There is a natural connection between cosmetic medicine, dermal therapies and anti-ageing medicine. Many cosmetic treatments are further enhanced by incorporating anti-ageing modalities, so it’s only a matter of time before cosmetic clinics adopt a more holistic approach to practice.’ The AACDS Curriculum Advisory Board unanimously agreed on the inclusion of anti-ageing medicine within the curriculum. ‘Instead of reinventing the wheel, we approached A5M about utilising some of their course material in order to create an articulation between the two qualifi cations,’ says AACDS Director April Jorgensen. The Graduate Diploma of Cosmetic Nursing is currently the only nationally accredited course of its kind. Developed for qualifi ed registered and enrolled nurses, the curriculum covers the key competencies required for nurses to work within a cosmetic medical clinic, including dermal therapies and cosmetic injectables procedures. The Graduate Diploma of Dermal Therapies is the highest qualifi cation level in dermal therapies currently available in Australia and teaches qualifi ed beauty and health professionals safe and effective dermal therapies including laser, skin needling, chemical peels and other light-based therapies. A cosmetic nurse or dermal therapist can further enhance their scope of practice by completing the A5M Certifi cation in Anti-Ageing Medicine for Allied Health Professionals. This certifi cation provides graduates with the knowledge and skills to detect, prevent and treat certain age-related dysfunctions and disorders. ‘AACDS graduates will receive full credit for one of the three modules required to complete the A5M Certifi cation in Anti-Ageing Medicine.
