Doch mit jeder neuen Generation gibt es mehr Mut und Hoffnung, der weltweit verbreiteten Infektionskrankheit und ihrer Tabuisierung in der Gesellschaft Subsahara-Afrikas ein Ende zu bereiten. Genau darauf setzen Charlize Theron und ihr 2007 gegründetes Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (ctaop). ctaop arbeitet auf lokaler Ebene mit kleineren Organisationen und Gemeinden zusammen mit dem Ziel, Kinder und Jugendliche ab zehn Jahren schon in einem frühen Stadium des Heranwachsens über die Übertragungswege und Folgen einer hiv-Infektion aufzuklären und so das Schweigen zu brechen und einer möglichen hiv-Infektion entgegenzuwirken. Auch heutzutage ist das Virus noch allzu oft ein Tabuthema in Familien, Gemeinschaften und unter Freunden, was zu einer enorm uninformierten Gesellschaft führt. In lockerer Atmosphäre werden Infotreffen zu Themen wie sexuelle und reproduktive Gesundheit, hiv/aids sowie Präventionsmaßnahmen abgehalten. Besonders wichtig ist dabei, den Mädchen und Jungen ein entspanntes Ambiente zu bieten, um ihnen den Zugang zu den für dieses Alter oft sehr unangenehmen Themen zu erleichtern. Das Motto von ctaop: Je vertrauter die Atmosphäre, desto einfacher ist es für die Jugendlichen, sich mit dem Thema bewusst auseinanderzusetzen und sich mitzuteilen. Ein „klassischer Schneeballeffekt“, der eine aufgeklärte und offene Lebenswelt schaffen soll. Ein besonderer Fokus von ctaop liegt auf Projekten, die mit ausgefallenen Ideen möglichst viel Aufmerksamkeit auf das tödliche Virus lenken. Charlize Theron and her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (ctaop), founded in 2007, are placing their hopes in this new generation to bring an end to this global infection and the taboo which surrounds it in sub-Saharan Africa. ctaop works with smaller organisations and communities here at a local level and has set itself the goal of explaining ways in which the virus is transmitted and consequences of hiv to children and young people in the early stages of adolescence from 10 years old. The aim is to break the silence and in this way help to counter hiv infection. Even today, the virus is all too often hushed up in families and communities and among friends, thereby fuelling the development of an enormous knowledge gap in society. Talks and training sessions on sexual and reproductive health, hiv/aids and preventative measures are held within casual gatherings. It is particularly important to establish a relaxed atmosphere to make it as easy as possible for boys and girls to address these issues which are often unpleasant to discuss at this age. The motto of the ctaop is: the more confidential the atmosphere, the easier it is for young people to tackle the issue and share it with others. A ‘classic snowball effect’ to create an enlightened and open living environment.
